Their unique orchestral format, featuring three trombones and a baritone saxophone, creates a distinctive sound characterized by its powerful harmonies. Lengaïa has had the privilege of accompanying renowned international salsa artists such as Yoko Mimata (2016), Ismael Rivera Jr (2017), and Fania All Stars’ lead singer, Ismael Miranda (2017). Additionally, they collaborated with Jimmy Bosch as special guests on the “GOLD DIGGERS” album in 2019. The orchestra’s excellence in salsa music was recognized when they won the “Salsa Group of the Year” category at the Canada Latin Awards for two consecutive years in 2017 and 2018.
Since their inception in 2012, Lengaïa has consistently delivered approximately 30 concerts each year, captivating audiences at various festivals, including Nuits d’Afrique, Salsa on St Clair, Toronto Salsa Festival, Festival Nuit Blanche de Montréal, and London Sun Fest.
In 2019, Lengaïa embarked on a successful tour of Colombia, performing in Cali, Medellin, and Bogota.
Their musical prowess was further acknowledged when they received a nomination at the Juno Awards in 2021 in the World music category for their album “GOLD DIGGERS.”
In 2023, Lengaïa released their third album, “Estética de un Rumbero.” This musical ensemble serves as a vivid reflection of Montreal’s rich multicultural tapestry, boasting a diverse lineup of talented musicians who originate from seven distinct countries: French Guiana, Cuba, Colombia, Peru, Quebec, Spain, and Venezuela.
“This is a NewGeneration Trombone driven powerhouse which is lead by Guyanese trombonist Giany Huyghues-Despointes. This production also features the legendary trombonist from New York City Jimmy Bosch on two tracks”
