Brussels Chamber Orchestra
Under the leadership of renowned conductor-violinist Michael Guttman, the Brussels Chamber Orchestra, with members from around the world, has enjoyed a growing success both at home and abroad.
Selected by UNESCO for its yearly concert at '"La Fenice" in Venice, they are now scheduled to appear in major halls around the world to promote UNESCO's efforts for world peace. Orchestra-in-residence at the prestigious "Pietrasanta in Concerto" festival in Italy, and invited to perform with the star soprano Danielle Deniese by the Tuscan Sun Festival in Cortona this past summer, Michael Guttman and the Brussels Chamber Orchestra are now scheduled to perform across Italy, including an engagement at Ferrara Musica, the prestigious series initiated by Claudio Abbado.
Chosen by the late Lukas Foss to be in-residence at the Hamptons Music Festival, they have presented both classical and world music concerts to critical and public acclaim. Highlights include a concert with the legendary clarinetist Richard Stolzman and the virtuoso Erhu player, George Gao.
Michael Guttman and the BCO, both in the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, their resident hall, and abroad, have performed with artists such as Boris Berezovsky, Ivry Gitlis, Gavriel Lipkind, Sergei Krylov. Engagements for 2009-2010 will see them collaborating with Vadim Repin, Natalya Guttman, and Joshua Bell.
Their repertoire, ranging from pre-baroque to cross-over projects, includes all the favorites for string orchestra as well as some rarely-heard jewels, with a special emphasis on Astor Piazzola's music, owing to conductor-violinist Michael Gutman's special relationship with the late tango master and his music. With winds and brass they are able to perform the classical repertoire and present programs of great diversity.
